Shamala Ratnesar B.Sc., M.Sc., APD, AN is an award-winning dietitian and author who wrote the first Australian book on omega-3 fatty acids.

Shamala specialises in heart health, diabetes and weight control and she developed The Total Life Diet because she is passionate about HELPING AND EMPOWERING PEOPLE TO LIVE LONG, LEAN, HEALTHY AND HAPPY LIVES.

My Story

I’ve always been interested in good health. I come from a family of doctors, singers and musicians so I grew up surrounded by all things healthy and musical. Even my grandmother used to say “Health is Wealth”.I also love food and my particular favourites are fish, seafood and sweet treats (cakes, cookies, desserts and ice cream)! I remember baking my first chocolate cake when I was seven years old and decorating it with mulberries from our back garden.When I became a teenager, like many young girls I grew concerned about body image. I thought that I was fat when I wasn’t and started ‘dieting’. I developed a weight problem and have been searching for a solution ever since.

I decided to become a dietitian so that I could combine my love of food and nutrition with my interest in health, and because I’m passionate about finding a solution to our health and weight problems.

When I was studying for my Masters’ degree at the University of Wollongong, I was introduced to the wonderful world of omega-3s. One of the studies that I researched was The Lyon Diet Heart Studya modified Mediterranean diet that reduced cardiovascular disease and total death by 70%!

The Lyon Diet Heart Study became the inspiration for the diet and lifestyle program that I’ve developed. I also researched many other studies such as The GISSI Prevenzione Trial, The DASH study and The Oslo Diet and Exercise Study, and together with lessons learnt from the healthiest and longest-living people in the world, and my extensive experience in the public hospital system and clinical nutrition practice, I’ve created The Total LIFE Diet.

I’ve been running The Total LIFE Diet for many years and my clients who’ve been following the diet have achieved excellent results. Many have reverted from pre-diabetes (borderline diabetes) back to normal; those with diabetes have achieved excellent blood glucose control; virtually everyone lowers their LDL cholesterol and triglycerides; many have lowered their blood pressure; they have lost weight and feel so much better and happier than they have for years.

I now want to share this new way of eating with you. This diet is not boring or bland and there’s no starvation or deprivation. Instead, you can enjoy deliciously healthy food for life. You can lose weight without feeling hungry, control your diabetes without depriving yourself of all the good things in life, prevent a heart attack, reduce inflammation, fend off cancer, sharpen your mind, boost your energy, feel happier and live life to the fullest!

My Three-fold Mission

  1. Firstly, I want to clarify all the confusion

    With so many FAD diets, conflicting and misleading information circulating in the public arena, I want to help clarify all the confusion and share with everyone the TRUTH about good nutrition, lasting weight loss and lifelong health.

  2. Secondly, I want to prevent people from going into hospital

    As a hospital dietitian, I have seen the unnecessary pain and suffering of so many people admitted to hospital with diet and lifestyle diseases – so I want to help prevent people being admitted to hospital in the first place.

  3. Thirdly, I want to share The Total LIFE Diet with everyone

    I’m passionate about sharing this life-transforming diet with everyone – and spreading The Total LIFE Diet message to the ends of the earth.
